The Yu-Gi-Oh! manga (Japanese comics) spawned several other media to compliment it. There were two anime, video games, movies and trading card game that added to its success and fame. With its entry to the gaming market, some characters remained in the limelight and as a constant model for gamers. Aside from the main protagonist Yugi Muto, allies and rivals like Seto Kaiba, Tristan Taylor, Bakura Ryou, Tea Gardner and Joey Wheeler are recurring characters in almost all of the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchises.
Yu-Gi-Oh! Joey, who is also known as Katsuya Jonouchi in the original Japanese version, is one of the characters that was really given a highlight throughout the series. As the best friend of the protagonist Yugi, Joey shared most of the screen time. Also since he likes to duel with Yugi, he is one of the characters that is often found in battles unlike other allies who are just present for moral support.
For Yu-Gi-Oh! Joey, his character is that of a comedic relief. The 16-year-old high school student started as a troublemaker who is associated with a gang. Before becoming the main protagonist's best friend, Joey Wheeler had been a bully to the former. As a player in both the anime and the video game, Joey is almost at par with Yugi and Kaiba. The series spinoff, Yu-Gi-Oh! GX mentions him, despite no appearance, as the third best duelist in the world.
Because of his increased fame, Yu-Gi-Oh! Joey the Passion was introduced as the last part of the video game series: Power of Chaos. This game was developed by Konami and it features the video game as a journey of duels with Joey Wheeler.
The Yu-Gi-Oh! Power of Chaos: Joey the Passion is unique to its predecessors as this is the only game that supports LAN games with other players. This video game is in a single-player mode and its ability to connect with other players allows the player to collect more cards that are not present in the actual version. Yu-Gi-Oh! Joey becomes the main protagonist through this.
With a wide array of merchandise under his name, Yu-Gi-Oh! Joey has become an indeed bankable character that has legions of followers.
